URL: From barry.forte at state.or.us Wed Mar 28 13:04:43 2012 From: barry.forte at state.or.us (FORTE Barry) Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2012 20:04:43 +0000 Subject: [CAPP] conference-important-please respond to me Message-ID: In September of 2011, the Child Abuse Prevention Partnership had the idea to try to re-focus this group by having a project that would benefit the community. A discussion was held about having a winter conference in late 2012 or early 2013. This has been a subject of conversation for the last four months. Jerry O'Sullivan from Adapt put a lot of effort into securing an AmeriCorps volunteer to help with a conference on poverty and a follow up project. The pre-application has been approved and now the rest of the application process needs to be completed. The meetings for CAPP are held on a monthly basis on the third Wednesday of the month. We are at a critical moment. As a coalition we need to decide if we are willing to invest the time necessary to host a successful conference and utilize an AmeriCorps volunteer to that end. We anticipate that this project will require consistent involvement from at least 10 CAPP members to accomplish our goals. The last CAPP meeting on March 21st was attended by four members. The decision about an AmeriCorps need to be made soon, so we are asking each member to consider their willingness and availability to contribute to this effort. If we can get 10 or more members to commit to active participation then we will move forward with completing the application process for the AmeriCorps. The AmeriCorps will also require a cash match of $6,000, of which, CAPP has committed to provide $1,000, if we move forward. This bill is due in August, with an option of payments until December. The remaining $5,000 will need to be raised in the community, through grants, or agency contributions. The conference goal was something that we hoped would spur and stimulate individuals to become re-energized in CAPP. It was also thought that it could be a pathway change in member agencies understanding of poverty. Douglas County has a high rate of poverty in fact according to 2010 figures 26% of the population of Douglas County lives below the poverty line: this does not consider the working poor. Given the low attendance at meetings, it appears there may not be much interest from the coalition members to engage in this event. Unfortunately, this would leave us no choice but to cancel this project. I would like to hear from you individually no later than Tuesday April 3, 2012 about whether or not a conference on poverty is something you will support and would be a willing participant to perform functions and duties to help make this conference happen. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
