Rule Hearing to require inspection of carbon monoxide alarms

In 2009, the Oregon Legislature passed a law requiring any person
selling a home, must sell the property with a properly installed and
operating carbon monoxide detector. This law becomes effective April 1,
2011.

Because home inspections are generally performed in anticipation of the
sale or purchase of a home, the Construction Contractors Board (CCB) has
proposed amending its home inspection rules to be consistent with Oregon
Law.

A rule hearing is scheduled for April 26, 2011. If passed it would
require Oregon Certified Home Inspectors to observe and report on carbon
monoxide detectors beginning May 1, 2011.
