Hello,
On October 17 & 18, 2013, a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Test Advisory Panels (TAPs) were held to review Oregon CNA testing data including the minimum passing score (cut score), testing trends, test reliability, exit survey summaries, selected written test items, and the steps of the CNA skill exam.
Recommendations from the CMA TAP:
* Screen out all the p-value test items with a value higher than .97 and lower than .25.
* Cut Score: Maintain the current cut score of 80%.
Recommendations from the CNA TAP:
* Screen out all the p-value test items with a value higher than .97 and lower than .25.
* Move the cut score back up the ability scale to target the population around -.8 standard deviations below the norm (72 or 73% cut score, 73% to error slightly on the side of public safety).
* Revise steps in the following skills: Assisting a dependent client with a meal, catheter care, foot care, perineal care, range of motion, and reposition client on side in bed.
These recommendations were approved by the Board on November 21, 2013 and will be effective January 1, 2014. Please watch for updated candidate handbooks in the near future to reflect the changes.
