Hello,
August 1st, 2019, is finally upon us. Thus, I would like to summarize some of the changes that will be implemented as of tomorrow, August 1st:
* Division 62 rule revisions are effective and apply to all applications received on or after August 1, 2019:
o An individual who has never been certified in Oregon and is seeking CNA 1 certification may perform the authorized duties of a nursing assistant at a licensed nursing facility for up to 120 days from the date of hire if the individual has successfully completed a Board-approved nursing assistant level one training program.
o A new CNA by Exam applicant may apply for the Board-approved CNA competency exam up to a year after date of program completion. The applicant must pass both the knowledge and skill parts of the exam within a year of application.
o Aeronautical medic training is acceptable education for CNA application in addition to the military corpsman or medic training. A Joint Services transcript needs to be submitted to the Board with a DD-214 that documents service within the two years of application. These individuals must successfully complete the Board-approved CNA competency exam within one year of application. A new LIC-703 CNA Exam for out-of-state nursing assistant training or military training to be posted on Board website August 1, 2019.
o Student Nurses seeking CNA certification using equivalent education must successfully complete the Board-approved CNA competency exam within a year of application. A new LIC-705 application for CNA 1 by examination for student nurses to be posted on Board website August 1, 2019.
o There is no longer a limit on the amount of attempts an applicant has to pass the Board approved CNA exam within a year of application.
o There is no longer a limit on the amount of attempts an applicant has to pass the Board approved CMA exam within a year of program completion.
o Currently licensed RNs or LPNs applying for CNA need to arrange for primary source verification of licensure. A new LIC-706 CNA application for obtaining a CNA by having an active LPN/RN license to be posted on Board website August 1, 2019.
o Addition of new sections specifically for reactivation and re-entry. Includes a new provision for individuals who previously held Oregon CNA to reactivate their certification if they worked 400 hours in the previous two years, under a nurse, in another state where they held current CNA certification. A new LIC-701 application for CNA reactivation or re-entry to be posted on Board website August 1, 2019.
o Student nurses seeking CMA certification using equivalent education must provide proof of current enrollment and successful completion of one year of a two-year nursing education program or two years of a four-year nursing education program. Elimination of infrequently used option for graduate of a nursing program to obtain CMA based on nursing education. A new LIC-704 application for CMA by exam to be posted on Board website August 1, 2019.
o In order to qualify for CNA 2 training, an individual must have 75 clinical hours from the nursing assistant level one training program, or 75 work hours as a CNA 1, or a combination of clinical hours and work hours that adds up to 75 hours. CNA 2 training program faculty will need to maintain documentation to verify that this eligibility requirement is met for all students.
