Hello everyone,
I just got through one very large and very consuming project but must feel bereft because I've been thinking today about the Online VR conference I proposed at the last Collaborative VR meeting. There seemed to be quite a bit of enthusiasm for the idea so I've been exploring a bit more. I've been in contact with a very helpful woman at Amigos. It was attending one of their conferences<http://www.amigos.org/wrangling_data> that got me thinking about this as a possibility. It turns out that they don't use any special conference software but instead have built it all on the backend. With that in mind I looked into our existing Zoom software and what our license allows. We currently have two webinar tracks that can be used at the same time and each will allow up to 500 people at a time to view the program. Each session can be listed separately and registered for separately, which I also like because it gives stats on each session, always interesting. So all of this right now is completely free for me/us to use. I can potentially purchase another webinar track for a month or even add on so that more than 500 could watch at a time (though that seems unlikely) and I don't think it would be very expensive to add those on. All sounds soooo easy right (ha, ha, ha!)
So this afternoon I have been thinking about what steps and pieces it would take to make this happen. I've started a Trello Board<https://trello.com/b/KzDxbimh/vr-conference-planning> with my thoughts ideas. I don't know if any of you use Trello but I have another long distance project that I manage and we've found it very handy as a project management tool. We also use Google Drive and I made a folder for conference planning that is linked on the first list.
I imagine this would happen for months, maybe this fall? So to get the conversation started take a look at the Trello board. If you want to join the board let me know and I'll add you in as a member. And maybe we can meet sometime and talk more specifically about how this might work.
