Greetings Everyone!
Our statewide chat program, AskMN, is partnering with our local MLIS
program to provide MLIS students with an opportunity for completing their
service-learning coursework via a cooperative online reference service.
So far, everything is going well. I will be joining the class at the
beginning of March and getting the students up and running with staffing
the service shortly after that. They will staff the service for about 6
weeks (4 hours public queue, 4 hours academic queue). I am trying to put
together the schedule. The biggest obstacle I'm running into is for the
first week where I will be shadowing their chats and I'm trying to figure
out a scheduling plan that won't mean I will be online for 80 hours a week.
After the first I will be online with them and available for help but not
joining the chats unless needed.
I am wondering if any of you have done similar outreach and can share any
insights about the experience. I am working with Springshare and they have
been helpful.
Best,
Carla
