The "Administrators' Toolkit: 10 Tools to Help Implement the Oregon Diploma" is designed to provide tools and information to help with planning and implementation of the new diploma requirements. The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) partnered with the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators (COSA) to bring together a group of administrators from around the state this summer to develop the Toolkit. The Toolkit is provided as a resource for schools and districts and is available on-online http://www.cosa.k12.or.us/profdev/administratorstoolkit.html If you have questions, please contact Theresa Levy, ODE Theresa.levy at state.or.us or Colin Cameron, COSA colin at cosa.k12.or.us 2008-09 On-line Oregon Standards Newspaper ! Now you can get tuition assistance when you complete a PrISM Oregon course if you are employed in an Oregon K-12 school. The reimbursement level will be 60% if you teach at an eligible high-need school and 40% if your school is not on the high-need list, so you can count on a minimum of 40% tuition assistance. (The entire district must qualify as high-need according to U.S. Census figures; then individual schools with high-poverty levels within the district can qualify.) PrISM Oregon courses are designed to make mathematics and science exciting for both you and your students and to increase your confidence in teaching math and science. PrISM courses are accredited graduate-level courses and can be applied to your pay scale, used for license reauthorization, and will apply towards a PrISM Certificate that will demonstrate your knowledge and abilities in mathematics and science. PrISM courses are designed to be accessible to teachers throughout Oregon, so all fall courses are either entirely online or hybrid courses with one or two face-to-face meetings or field experiences. All fall courses will begin September 29, 2008, so don't delay. Sign up for the course you want at the university teaching the course. Take a look at this intriguing list of 10 science & mathematics courses that make up the PrISM Oregon courses available this fall. Then sign up at the university teaching the fall PrISM course that interests you and begin your journey toward earning a PrISM certificate. * Engaging in Science: Ecological/Environmental Inquiry for Elementary Teachers * The Young Child as Scientist * Mathematics and Culture * The Invisible World of Microbes * Scientific Method * Nature of Science * Science Materials & Labs: Nature of Science * Earth/Space Science in the Elementary Classroom * Inquiry Teaching * Inquiring into Science & Mathematics Learning and Teaching Bonnie Bonnie Morihara, Ph.D. PrISM Oregon Coordinator The Teaching Research Institute Western Oregon University 345 N.
