From Camilla.Hoexter at ode.state.or.us Fri Oct 9 11:20:43 2009 From: Camilla.Hoexter at ode.state.or.us (HOEXTER Camilla) Date: Fri, 9 Oct 2009 11:20:43 -0700 Subject: [Currdir] OSL&P: Scholarship for Speech Language Pathology Assistant Message-ID: TO: Curriculum Directors The message below is being forwarded to you on behalf of: Nancy Latini, PhD Assistant Superintendent Student Learning & Partnerships ______________________________________________ October 8, 2009 RE: Scholarship Opportunities for Students Who Enroll in Speech Language Pathology Assistant Programs At this time, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is recruiting scholarship candidates from districts and ESDs. Scholarship recipients will enroll in the Oregon cohort of the Speech Language Pathologist Assistants program through Chemeketa Community College. During the 2007 Regular Legislative Session, House Bill 3141, Section 19 (12), was passed by the 74th Oregon Legislative Assembly. Each biennium, the Department of education may expend up to $150,000 from the State School Fund for the administration of a program to increase the number of speech-language pathologists and speech-language pathology assistants under sections 21 to 25 of this 2007 Act. Through HB 3141 funding, forty-two (42) Oregon educators have already been awarded scholarships for further education in Speech Language Pathology, a field identified with a severe shortage of professionals. These forty-two speech language pathologists and speech language pathology assistants are currently working in Oregon school districts and, at the same time, are in professional development programs which will result in appropriate professional certification. Districts/ESDs from across the state are involved with the SLP and SLPA cohort programs, and many of the districts are located in rural portions of the state. Even before the cohort members have completed their programs in SLPA, the members are sharing their newly-honed skills in Oregon schools. We are anxious to begin an additional Oregon cohort, and invite your district or ESD to apply. The deadline of November 1, 2009, is quickly approaching. The SLPA program begins in January 2010. (Click the underlined link.) Data submission for the state funded SIF grant that focuses on improving student achievement is scheduled for October 29 through midnight November 30. Please send this information and link to your district SIF grant managers. While district business managers have communicated with ODE regarding SIF budgets, the SIF grant managers customarily submit data to the collection. For this final collection, it is important to study the instructions before entering data as these instructions are not included on the SIF Web form. Filling out the Web form without following these instructions will result in incomplete data. A sample response and tips are included in the instructions to assist the district grant managers with data entry. We encourage districts to enter data as soon as convenient after October 29. Note: The collection will not be open for viewing prior to October 29. If you have questions regarding the instructions, please e-mail Julie Anderson at julie.anderson at state.or.us or Mike Wiltfong at Michael.wiltfong at state.or. If you'd like us to call, please e-mail your phone number. Thank you. ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. Message-ID: SIF Data Collection Made Easy! Be prepared for the SIF Data collection! Data submission for the state funded SIF grant that focuses on improving student achievement will be Oct. 29-Nov. 30. Some districts will have carry-over for 2009-10; ODE requires districts to report only on 2008-09 actual expenditures at this time. Here's how to get started: TIP # 1: CELEBRATE...ODE has made this collection easier than last year's! TIP # 2: FORWARD this e-mail to your district's SIF program grant manager. TIP # 3: USE the SIF Data Collection Instructions (click link below) http://www.ode.state.or.us/opportunities/grants/nclb/title_i/a_basicprograms/schoolimprovement/sif-07-09-data-submission-instructions.pdf. The SIF Data Collection cannot be completed successfully without using the instructions. Print the instructions; use the scale of 1-10 and the multiple choice answers (provided only in the instructions) to draft your answers. As only a small number of characters are possible for the narrative answers, ODE has provided for your convenience very brief narrative answers to use as models. TIP # 4: SEE your submitted answers from last year's data collection when you enter the collection; this information is not available prior to October 29. TIP # 5: DON'T WAIT to see the Web Form when the collection opens-it has no instructions; the data collection cannot be completed successfully without consulting the instructions. TIP # 6: DRAFT your answers in Word using the instructions; copy and paste them into the data collection when it opens. TIP # 7: COMPLETE your data entry prior to Thanksgiving Week (the holiday, furlough day, floating furlough days) so ODE may assist you, if needed.
