The Oregon Department of Education is seeking information from administrators and teachers on their schools' computer capacity for using formative assessments. Your input from the easyCBM Technology Capacity Survey will help guide the direction of the grant-funded Oregon Formative Assessment Resources (OFAR) project, so we encourage your participation. The information will help designers craft a district version of a formative assessment system like easyCBM, which can then be implemented in districts throughout Oregon and integrated with OAKS. The surveys are confidential; here's where to find them: Administrators: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NSRJBRB Teachers: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NX5ZV5M Your time and feedback is much appreciated, Mickey Mickey Garrison, PhD Data Literacy Strategist, ODE Mickey.Garrison at state.or.us 541-580-1201 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Several copies were mailed to ESDs, school districts, and colleges of education. The production of these materials was funded with federal literacy dollars. Additional copies of the Framework are not available from ODE; however, the Framework (with table of contents) can be downloaded at http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=2987 from the Menu on the right side of the page. For additional information, please contact LiteracyFramework at state.or.us. Literacy Framework DVDs Sent to Leaders and Policymakers All state, district, and school education leaders and policymakers received an Oregon K-12 Literacy Framework DVD and memo from Superintendent Castillo in October. The DVD includes two videos: "Moving Reading Forward," (9 minutes) and "Pathway to Reading" (20 minutes). The production of these materials was funded with federal literacy dollars. District and school leaders are encouraged to use the videos to provide professional development to staff on using a comprehensive reading model. Moving reading forward in Oregon means that all students will have the reading skills to do well early in school and throughout school, earn an Oregon Diploma, and succeed after high school. K-12 planning is needed to make this happen. The videos and online Oregon K-12 Literacy Framework provide guidance for both planning and implementation. The support of policymakers will increase the likelihood of early success. This January, ODE staff will work with stakeholders from around the state to review Oregon's Reading Achievement Standards for Grades 3-8 and High School in preparation for adopting revised cut scores for Oregon's statewide Reading assessment. This work corresponds to recent work completed in the area of mathematics, where adjustments to achievement standards were made to produce results in lower grades that are more predictive of student success in meeting the high school achievement standards. Proposed changes resulting from this event would be presented to the state board as recommendations for implementation during the 2011-2012 school year. You may nominate yourself and you may nominate multiple people. ODE is seeking a diverse panel of participants from around the state including: * Educators (teachers, principals, superintendents, etc) with extensive experience with K-12 or post-secondary instruction including substantial knowledge of Oregon's assessments and content standards * Parents and community members with a solid understanding of the interdependence of instruction, content standards, and assessment To make a nomination, please complete the nomination form available on the ODE website at: http://www.ode.state.or.us/wma/teachlearn/subjects/english/reading/assessment/reading-standardssetting-nomination-form.doc.
