<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt'>
The regional professional development will be offered this summer (2010) and is
similar to the Moving Math Education Forward workshops offered in the summer of
2009. Each regional opportunity will offer two days of working with the
2009 science standards and provide hands-on inquiry and engineering design
sessions for science educators. There is an optional half day session in
the morning on the third day for continued work with lesson and action
planning, and an additional half day session in the afternoon of the third day
for work with staff development standards and a grant opportunity. For
more information including dates and locations, to access the registration
packet, and the online registration system, visit </span><a

<b><span style='color:black'>Ocean Literacy and Awareness: Needs Assessment
Survey<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt'>
The Ocean Awareness and Literacy Action Coordination Team (ACT) of the West
Coast Governors’ Agreement on Ocean Health (WCGAOH) is requesting input
from educators, administrators, program directors, or resource specialists who
are or may be interested in incorporating marine topics into your curriculum or
program. They survey results will give WCGAOH a better sense of how they can
help educators bring ocean literacy and awareness into their classrooms. The
goal is to have students understand the relevance of the oceans and their
watersheds by the time they graduate from high school. The WCGAOH was signed by
Governors Schwarzenegger, Kulongoski and Gregoire in 2008. Under this
agreement, California, Oregon and Washington have worked together and consulted
with federal agency leads and stakeholders to improve the health of our ocean
and coastal resources along the West Coast. Action Coordination Teams
were created to address activities in the Action Plan. These ACTs are comprised
of representatives with technical expertise from each of the three states. You
can find more information about the WCGAOH at <a
href="http://westcoastoceans.gov/">http://westcoastoceans.gov/</a> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt'>
To complete the survey, go to <a href="https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VMPR7QX">https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VMPR7QX</a>
The survey should take about 15 minutes and closes on March 31st.
Your input is extremely important, and we appreciate the time you take to
critically comment on our questions. By completing this survey, you are helping
us further the vision of an ocean-literate society. In addition, survey
respondents will be entered into a drawing to receive a prize package (one per
state), which will include, two passes to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and a free
back-wing tour of the Hatfield Marine Science Center (Oregon). Each
winner will also receive assorted ocean-related books, curricula, and DVDs; and
many other fabulous prizes. Thank you for participating and in helping us bring
ocean, coastal, and watershed topics into the broader K-12 educational arena.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
