OBIEE users,

I recently found out some helpful information when it comes to filtering in OBIEE and wanted to pass it along.

How to create a filter for 'blank' spaces (OBIEE vs Hyperion):

Hyperion: Within a query section, open the filter window of the desired field, select 'show values', select the 'blank' value. As a reminder, the 'Show Values' option takes time to complete as it runs a query on the database to find all values.

Example:

OBIEE: The solution is to type one 'space' in the filter condition (without quotes). Start within the Analysis, and in the Criteria section, open the filter window of a field and input one 'space' in the filter value.

The blue highlight below represents the one 'space' in the value.

In most occurrences of the Datamart, "blanks" are stored as a single 'space' character. If this filter does not eliminate the blanks in your query, then more often than not, the value is stored differently in the Database.
