I wanted to pass along a reminder/hint when it comes to building an OBIEE analysis file. This tip is mainly for users from large agencies who struggle with long run times. The key is to input a small agency on your filter when initially building the file.
This tip may sound strange but by doing this, it will greatly increase the speed of building the query, due to the small amount of data the agency will gather. In addition, it will allow for easier movement throughout the file when editing, especially when updating the format, field input, formula, and Table/Pivot.
Once the file is fully setup, including all fields, tables, pivots, and formatting, you can update the file filters to include your own (large) agency. Any additional filters will be input at this time.
As a reminder, during the initial creation process, you will more than likely have to use less filters as the smaller agency does not have the specific data as your larger agency. For example, a filter for ‘Grant No equal to 280703’. This may be the data you desire, in the end; however, the small agency may not have the specific Grant Number. Therefore, you would wait to include this filter until the file is fully setup. You are still able to complete a full file build, even without the ‘Grant No’ filter.
With this tip, you will be able to speed up the initial build, which can be a huge times savings.
Good luck,
