Datamart users,

I am always looking to send out helpful information for OBIEE. Here is some instruction on a complex feature, I hope you find helpful.

Feature: How to start creating a field that contains a formula within an OBIEE analysis.

OBIEE: The best way I have found to start creating a formula field is to be in the 'Criteria' section of an Analysis, add any subject area field to the 'selected columns' criteria section. Select the wheel icon on the new field and 'edit formula'. Once editing, you will need to update the 'folder' and 'column' heading names. Make them different than any other field. Finally, update the formula area.

The formula can be created in many ways. OBIEE provides some standard functions, just like Hyperion. There are some shortcut keys at the bottom of the formula pop-up window (view screenshot below). The insert function "f(...)" is a good place to start, as it provides many standard formula functions, as well as provides a description of the function.
