SPECIAL ISSUE: The Emergency Board and DHS Budget Cuts
Instructions on how to subscribe, unsubscribe or submit items for possible

1. At the November meeting of the Emergency Board, DHS submitted plans to
address its current budget shortfall, as well as its plan to cut the budget in
February if the January ballot measure fails.
The Emergency Board directed the department to implement a number of those
proposed cuts regardless of the outcome of the election, in order to help
remedy the department's existing $23 million shortfall this biennium.
The Emergency Board's mandated budget cuts are available as a series of pdf
documents on the DHS Web site:

Because the Emergency Board action leaves DHS with less than the required $88
million in cuts if the ballot measure fails, the department is now developing
other reductions to reach that total.
