1. In her weekly message, DHS Director Jean I. Thorne addresses the Governor*s
performance expectations, scholarships for foster youth, and recaps recent

2. News about the status of Oregon children*s oral health includes that more
than half of kids ages 6-8 have cavities. Poor oral health affects the poor
and minorities disproportionately. Read the news release at

3. Salem-based Mid-Willamette Valley Senior Services Agency has accepted a
temporary contract to deliver Oregon Project Independence and Older Americans
Act services in Clatsop and Tillamook counties. This follows North Coast
Senior Services* decision to relinquish its contract to deliver these

4. State and county workers have begun accepting applications for a
scaled-back General Assistance program, expected to serve about 1,150 persons
