The Domestic Violence Project at the Urban Justice Center

Domestic violence in the Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, and Bisexual (LGBT) community is a serious issue. Many experts believe that domestic violence in the LGBT community goes highly unreported. This webinar, presented by Ted Farley, Esq., will focus on how to help victims of domestic violence in the LGBT community at a Family Justice Center. Ted will provide an overview of domestic violence dynamics in same sex relationships. Ted will also share valuable tools and insights on how to work effectively with LGBT clients. This webinar training will examine how family violence professionals can sensitively communicate, provide services, and build trust with LGBT clients at a Family Justice Center. Advocates, counselors, attorneys, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and all others working with victims of domestic violence are encouraged to attend.

New Family Justice Centers Coming to Five California Communities
Grant Funding From California Family Justice Initiative Expands Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services

Five new Family Justice Centers will open across California to provide comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault services based on a model first introduced in San Diego in 2002. The National Family Justice Center Alliance (NFJCA), based in San Diego, has helped develop fourteen Family Justice Centers in California in the last five years. Now, with support from Blue Shield of California Foundation, the NFJCA will help develop five more Centers. Through a competitive application process, the NFJCA has selected five communities to participate in the California Family Justice Initiative and expand the network of Family Justice Centers in California.

The five new Centers will be located in the following counties:

 *   Imperial County
 *   Alpine County (Inter-Tribal Council of California)
 *   Sacramento County
 *   Solano County
 *   Yolo County
