MID VALLEY WOMEN'S CRISIS SERVICE
Position Description - Bilingual Sexual Assault Services Advocate

Current Position:  1.0 FTE              Class III          Starting salary:  $30,000 + benefits
                Mid-Valley Women's Crisis Service has been providing hope and safety to victims of domestic and sexual violence for over 40 years. The core values of our agency are Safety, Choice, Empowerment, Advocacy, Education, Ethics and Cultural Awareness. We provide a 24-hour hotline, safe shelter, support groups, transitional housing and community education for Marion County. Our office is located in downtown Salem, Oregon.

                The Bilingual Sexual Assault Advocate provides outreach, advocacy, and safety planning  to victims/survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking and human trafficking.

                Duties:

* Advocate for monolingual and rural victims of sexual assault and their families.  Provide information and referral services to help clients obtain social, medical, legal, counseling and other services.

* Provide support, counseling and crisis intervention to victims of sexual violence.

* Provide accompaniment and advocacy through medical, criminal justice and social support systems, including medical facilities, police, and court proceedings.

* Assist victims in developing short-term and long-term safety plans.


*         Participate in community meetings with other social service agencies.

* Provide educational presentations and trainings to the community and to other agencies on the issues of rape and sexual assault.

* Provide and maintain updated displays of brochures and posters throughout rural communities.

* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on all activities.

* Participate in shared activities, which include hotline coverage, backup for hotline volunteers, hotline scheduling, staff meetings, needs identification and other projects.

*Assist with regular training of new staff, volunteers and practicum students as needed.


Qualifications:

*             Two-year degree or experience working with women in advocacy, crisis intervention or related field.

*             Demonstrated ability in providing direct support, information services, crisis intervention, advocacy or education to adult victims of sexual violence.

*             Demonstrated experience in outreach and community networking.

*             Demonstrated ability in both individual and group settings.

*             Knowledge of local resources available in rural Marion County.

*             Strong written and verbal communication skills.

*             Ability to function with minimal supervision and take initiative.

*             Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including evening hours.

*             Excellent organizational and time management skills.

*             Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel and community partners.

*             Bicultural and Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills required.

*             A car, valid driver's license and proof of current automobile insurance required.
