February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Women between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence in the US. Experiencing violence at this young age is not only detrimental to their development but also their well-being. The consequences of an abuser’s actions can undermine a survivor’s immediate and future safety and economic security. Teen survivors face many of the same economic impacts as adult survivors, but may have longer-term consequences due to the lifelong harm of not completing high school, dropping out of college, early unemployment or teen pregnancy. Understanding and addressing these economic harms as part of efforts to support adolescent survivors is necessary to promote their full recovery from violence and abuse and ensure safety and security.
Join WOW's Sarah Gonzalez Bocinski, Manager of the Economic Security for Survivors Project<http://wfc2.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=a%2BCizBDd%2Bs%2F2RuAKXMDTve1Voo5cbQ%2BD> and Casey Corcoran, Program Director, Children & Youth Program at Futures Without Violence<http://wfc2.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=rx8NOSlJjaZuG4bNCx8sQe1Voo5cbQ%2BD>, for a discussion around the economic impacts that violence has on teen survivors.
