[DV_listserv] Statewide DV Fatality Review Team Reports

[Domestic Violence issues]

Hello,

Every other year the statewide Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team (DVFRT) submits a report to the legislature on its findings and recommendations based on its case reviews. Last December, the Team submitted its required report. I have attached that report for your review. You will find that the Team made four key findings:

1) The Effects on Children of Exposure to Domestic Violence
2) Improving the Efficacy of the Protection Order Process
3) Identifying Points of Intervention and Resources for Victims and Survivors
4) Improving Awareness around Domestic Violence and Promoting Cultural Change

The Team pledged to submit a 'mini-report' on each of these findings. Last week, the Team submitted its first report on key finding #2. That, too, is attached for your review. The Team offered five recommendations:

1) Pass an Emergency Protection Order Law
2) Amend the Foreign Restraining Order Statute
3) Improve Judicial, Prosecutor, and Law Enforcement Training
4) Support Implementation of Firearm Dispossession Protocols
5) Make Violation of A Restraining Order a Crime


The Team hopes to submit the other three 'mini-reports' in the next few months.
