With the help of ESPN, former pro-football player Greg Hardy has started his redemption tour in the hopes of securing himself yet another highly-paid position in the NFL. (The Dallas Cowboys signed Hardy while he was serving his suspension for his vicious attack on a former girlfriend. However, he was recently released from the team after a season filled with violent outbursts, inappropriate public comments, and other strange behavior.)

Michelle Beadle, anchor of one of ESPN's top shows, took exception to the role her employer was playing in propping up Hardy: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/04/05/michelle-beadle-questions-espn-giving-greg-hardy-a-platform/

Kudos to Ms. Beadle.

While Hardy and his agent work the media (and society, in general), a statement from the victim/survivor in this case largely went unnoticed. Her words offer an important reminder of the lasting effects of domestic violence; effects which can be amplified if the perpetrator is a celebrity, public figure, or even someone simply well known in the community.

"I have worked very hard to distance myself from the media. I have relocated twice, changed my phone number more times than I can remember -- I've even considered legally changing my name," she said. "In four weeks I will be graduating from college with a Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management. My focus is on finding a job, which has had its own unique challenges because of the news coverage related to my name. I am trying to move forward with my life and am asking the media to respect my privacy and wishes."
