Hello, Honey Badgers!

It’s my last day at DOJ and I’m writing to say THANK YOU for an amazing 8+ years as your DV Resource Prosecutor (DVRP). It’s been a huge honor to have been given the opportunity to work with and learn from all of you.

I’m so excited to announce that your next DVRP will be Sarah Sabri. Sarah is currently the DV Team Leader in Lane County. She’s been a prosecutor for nearly 13 years and has done DV prosecution that entire time. Sarah also has extensive experience creating and delivering Domestic Violence trainings for law enforcement, prosecutors, and advocates. I’m confident that Sarah is going to take the DVRP program to the next level and I can’t wait to see and hear about all the wonderful things she accomplishes with and for you. She’ll start on July 30th. Her email address will be: sarah.m.sabri at doj.state.or.us<mailto:sarah.m.sabri at doj.state.or.us>

I know that you will be as helpful and welcoming to her as you have been with me!

(Sarah, Michael Slauson (Chief, Criminal Justice Division), Me, Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum)

In my final email to you as DVRP, I want to recommend a few books for you. Many of you have heard me recommend these before:

1) Trauma and Recovery (Dr. Judith Herman)
2) The Body Keeps The Score (Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk)
3) The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog (Dr. Bruce Perry)
4) The Gift of Fear (Gavin de Becker)

And because being a Honey Badger is really had work and we need to take care of ourselves:

4) Trauma Stewardship ( Laura Van der Noot Lipsky)

As some of you have heard, I’m leaving DOJ to start my own law practices. I will be focusing on much of what I do now: developing DV/SA training, curriculum, and Best Practices; legislative/policy work; expert witness consultation and testimony; as well as providing direct victim representation. My website, www.greenawaldlaw.com<http://www.greenawaldlaw.com> will be effective July 16th and if you need me, you can find me there! I’m also available at eringreenawald at yahoo.com<mailto:eringreenawald at yahoo.com>

FINALLY, if you haven’t read the statement written by the victim - survivor in the Brock Turner case, you need to read it:

https://www.buzzfeed.com/katiejmbaker/heres-the-powerful-letter-the-stanford-victim-read-to-her-ra?utm_term=.fsml2EpLb#.cuPQoY931

The entire narrative is extremely powerful, but one part stands out to me about the work that we aspire to do. It’s a quote from Anne LaMott:

"Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining."

I can’t tell you how much I admire the work that each of you does. THANK YOU!!

And remember, Honey Badgers actually DO care.

My best to each of you!

Erin
