Trauma Informed Culturally Competent Response to Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Training
WHEN: May 2nd or May 3rd, 2019 (Same agenda both days)

WHO: Criminal justice professionals responding to domestic violence and sexual assault such as law enforcement, prosecutors, advocates, sexual assault nurse examiners, probation officers, DHS caseworkers, dispatchers, mental health professionals, and other community partners should attend.
Featured National Presenters: Prosecutor Donna Kelly and Retired Detective Justin Boardman co-authored a Trauma Informed Victim Interview Protocol for adult victims of sexual assault which has quadrupled prosecution rates in sexual assault cases. This new protocol uses the Neurobiology of Trauma to gain additional information to be used in investigations. With her roots in Oregon Donna Kelly also co-author “Oregon’s Child Interviewing Guidelines” in 1999. Donna and Justin have presented together for the Sexual Violence Justice Institute (SVJI), Battered Women Justice Project (BWJP), National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC), Institute on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma (IVAT), and at many other national conferences.
Featured Local Presenters: Brad Porterfield has been the Latino Community Association Executive Director for 13 years. Ofelia Figueroa is the Healthy Families Outreach Specialist in Madras for the last 4.5 years with the Latino Community Association.
Training Sessions:
1) Trauma Informed Response will focus on learning the principles of the neurobiology of trauma and the victim’s response to trauma (45 minutes).
2) Trauma Informed Victim Interviewing incorporates the principles of the neurobiology of trauma and focuses on the how-to’s of conducting a trauma-informed victim interview, including video clips from real sexual assault interviews (2.25 hours).
3) Trauma Informed Investigations will go over documentation (reports) to show the new evidence and ideas to corroborate. We will review some police reports and find the trauma and talk about possible follow up (1 hour).
4) Cultural Competency will focus on learning self-awareness, awareness of others, evaluating our cultural competency, and making the changes we desire (2 hours).
