[DV_listserv] News Article: Man who shot at Salem police officer has domestic violence history

I want to draw attention to this particular article, because it is a local example of what research is continuing to show: the individuals involved in assaults and attempted murders on police often have a domestic violence history.

On May 14, 2019 Officer Michelle Pratt of the Salem police department was shot during a traffic stop.  The suspect fled, and was taken into custody 12 hours later, following a standoff.  The suspect Jaime Jimenez was charged with attempted aggravated murder with a firearm, second degree assault with a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.   At the time of the shooting, Jimenez was wanted for Felony Assault in the Fourth Degree Constituting Domestic Violence and Felony Strangulation Constituting Domestic Violence charges stemming from a December 2018 incident.  Jimenez also has additional DV history, including convictions for Menacing in 2004 and Strangulation DV in 2018.
