WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
State and tribal prosecutors that handle domestic violence cases. The first 2 days of training cover DV Fundamentals geared towards prosecutors that are new or newly-returning to DV prosecution. Topics will include understanding DV dynamics, trauma-informed prosecutions, and an in-depth look at understanding and using the evidence code.  More-experienced prosecutors are always welcome to attend/ re-attend the fundamentals + evidence code portion of the Academy.  The remaining 1.5 days of the Training is for DV prosecutors with all levels of experience. A variety of advanced topics will be presented. These topics change each year but focus on current issues and hurdles in domestic violence prosecution with a focus on trial advocacy, evidentiary issues, trial practice techniques and working with DV victims.  This course is limited to 30 prosecutors.

Advanced Training Topics will include: Forfeiture by wrongdoing, DV ethics, warrants, coordinating with civil attorneys, aid
+ assist issues in DV cases, understanding Paid Leave Oregon, and working with non-participating or "hostile" victims.

(This is an in-person training, and there will not be a virtual option to attend)

COST:
Registration is free.  Federal grant funds cover GSA lodging costs for participants traveling more than 50 miles.
We secured a group block with the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront<https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/pdxor-portland-marriott-downtown-waterfront/overview/>. There will be associated costs with those in the Marriott room block. Please see more information under 'LODGING' below. Federal grant funds unfortunately do not cover parking costs, mileage or per diems for attendees.

There are numerous parking options surrounding our training location. The closest option is the Crowne Plaza Parking Garage (across the street from the main entrance of the Portland DOJ building).

LODGING:
Federal grant funds cover GSA lodging costs for participants traveling more than 50 miles.  If you are requesting lodging, there is a place to indicate that on the registration form.

We have secured a group block with the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront<https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/pdxor-portland-marriott-downtown-waterfront/overview/>.  Please do not create your own reservations;  we will secure your lodging under our room block (you will receive a confirmation email from the Marriott sometime in the next couple of weeks). Marriott guests will be required to provide a personal credit card for incidentals and internet. There may also be associated parking fees; the area parking map for self-park is attached to this email.
