Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview (FETI) training is coming to Cannon Beach in December!  FETI is a science-based interviewing technique that helps investigators gather information from victims and suspects of crime in a neutral and fair way. FETI is based on research about the neurobiology of memory and trauma, and it aims to avoid re-traumatizing victims.

This particular training opportunity is focused towards law enforcement officers that are doing sexual assault investigations, and any law enforcement officers that are working with victims and survivors of sexual assault/ trauma.  A DOJ grant covers the registration cost ($2090), lodging in Cannon Beach (if working 30+ miles away), and mileage for any officer accepted.  There are 30-35 slots available for this training. The DOJ/DVRP program is excited to be able to bring the Practical Application of FETI (Forensic Experiential Trauma Interviewing) training program to Oregon!  Please see details below for more information about the specifics this grant-funded opportunity and instructions for application for this opportunity.  Priority is given to law enforcement.  Please read the details in this email before filling out the application form.

Note: This is different than the HB 2575 funding.  Application for this opportunity does not require a grant proposal/reporting on your part.

WHAT IS THIS TRAINING?
The Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview (FETI(r)) provides interviewers with a science-informed interviewing framework that maximizes opportunities for information collection and accurately documents the participant's experience in a neutral, equitable, and fair manner.  Certified FETI is the founding and governing body of the official Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview(r), a science and practice-based interviewing methodology informed by the latest research on the neurobiology of trauma and memory. Participation in this grant-funded opportunity has TWO components.  Participation in BOTH components are required to receive a grant-funded slot at this training.  The online portion must be completed prior to the December in-person dates.  See details of the online/in-person breakdown below.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS TRAINING?
The grant funds that support this particular training opportunity give priority to law enforcement officers that come into contact with victims and survivors of sexual assault/trauma.  Multiple individuals from the same agency/jurisdiction can apply.

If spots remain available, prosecutors and other criminal justice professionals that support law enforcement work with victims and survivors of sexual assault (and domestic violence) can be considered.  Anyone can submit the application form to express interest in this, or future available FETI trainings. WHEN/WHERE IS THIS TRAINING?
The in-person portion of this training is Wednesday, December 11- Friday, December 13, 2024.  It will take place at the Surf Sand Resort in Cannon Beach, Oregon.  The training will occur each day between 9am-5pm with a break for lunch.  You must attend all portions of the in-person training.

You will be required to complete a 16-hour online module prior to the in-person training.  This module is self-paced and can be accessed 24/7.  (Unless you can show proof of previous completion of the online Methodology of FETI, in-person Introduction to FETI or in-person Accelerated FETI.)

HOW MUCH DOES THIS TRAINING COST?
If accepted, the grant funds will cover the registration fees for both Methodology of FETI and Practical Application of FETI (value of $2090) and lodging from Tuesday, December 10- Friday December 13, 2024 at the Surf Sand Resort in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Depending on distance traveled for training, there may be an opportunity for additional lodging on Friday, December 13 (because training goes until 5).  There will be a reimbursement form available for mileage.

Your agency is responsible any per diems and your time.  No meals will be provided at this training.

TRAINING DETAILS:
PART 1: 16-hour online FETI Methodology (at your own pace)

  *   This is the foundational training as it provides the full curriculum for the Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview Methodology. At the core of the course is an interactive online experience that provides attendees with detailed instruction on every part of the FETI Methodology. This course provides instruction on the official FETI Framework(tm), with in-depth guidance on how to correctly conduct a Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview. Attendees are provided with all the elements of a FETI interview, so they can immediately apply the knowledge from the training to their professional work.
  *   This portion of the training provides a foundation for the following: understanding the FETI Framework; recognizing the impact of trauma and high-stress on memory, communication, and recall; learning how to maximize opportunities for information gathering; learning how to utilize FETI Brain-Based Cues in interviews; understand the difference between an interview and an investigation; and identifying ways that Experiential Information Collection may be negatively impacted.

PART 2: 3-day in-Person Practical Application of FETI December 11-13, 2024 in Cannon Beach, Oregon

  *   This portion of the training provides attendees with instruction over three in-person days (9:00 am - 5:00 pm) that includes applying and demonstrating the FETI skill sets learned during the FETI Methodology Course; participation as an interviewer and participant in multiple interviews each day under the guidance and instruction of a CFP-A instructor; and facilitated review of conducted interviews.
  *   Each attendee will participate in multiple Forensic Experiential Trauma Interviews, both as a participant and an interviewer, to enhance their understanding and skillset of the FETI methodology. Throughout the course, each student will continue to develop and practice the knowledge, skills, and abilities obtained from the prerequisite courses, the FETI Methodology course (online).

*OPTIONAL* PERSONAL EXPERIENCE INTERVIEW:
As part of these grant funds we are also able to offer a limited number of opportunities to participate in a "Personal Experience Interview (PEI)."  A personal experience interview allows you to "be FETI'd" about an experience in your life- to directly experience how this interview technique works.  If you are interested in doing a PEI, please indicate so on the application.  This will be arranged at a time that works between you and Certified FETI and be conducted via zoom.

HOW DO I APPLY?
Award of the grant-funded slot is not based on first-come/first-serve submission of the application form.  Preference will be given to LE/SA until November 17 at midnight.  Considerations will also be made to allow for representation from a broad  variety of jurisdictions. The grant funds for this opportunity for FETI training are limited to 30-35 participants.
