The first 2 days of training cover DV Fundamentals geared towards prosecutors that are new or newly-returning to DV prosecution. Topics will include understanding DV dynamics, DV trial basics, trauma-informed prosecutions and current caselaw. More-experienced prosecutors are always welcome to attend/ re-attend the fundamentals portion of the Academy. Insight from experienced prosecutors during these sessions is incredibly helpful to cross-training around the state. The remaining 1.5 days of the Training is for DV prosecutors with all levels of experience. A variety of advanced topics will be presented. These topics change each year but focus on current issues and hurdles in domestic violence prosecution with a focus on trial advocacy, evidentiary issues, trial practice techniques and working with DV victims. This course is limited to 35 prosecutors. *Law enforcement and advocates may attend, if space is available (but we cannot cover lodging). TRAINING LOCATION: Springfield Police Department 230 4th Street, Springfield (Upstairs Training Room) *This is an in-person training, and there will not be a virtual/hybrid option to attend. Sessions will not be recorded. *CLE credits will be available COST: Registration is FREE. Free parking will be available near the training location. Registration options: * ENTIRE DV Academy Training (June 23-26). Foundations includes DV dynamics, trauma-informed practices, case evaluation and case management basics, and DV ethics. The first 2 days are similar each year, but all levels of prosecution are encouraged to attend/reattend these sessions. * Advanced DV Topics ONLY (June 25-26) Advanced and current DV topics - TBD LODGING: Federal grant funds cover GSA lodging costs for prosecutors traveling more than 40 miles. Your lodging will be booked by DOJ based on the information provided in the training registration. Lodging priority is given to any prosecutors registered prior to June 4.
