                              Conference Seeking Proposals: The Oregon Sexuality 
                              Conference is seeking workshop proposals for its

                              demonstration projects as part of the Attorney 
                              General's Defending our Children Initiative. 
                              Here's a brief summary of what the grant is about: 
                              Our vision is to make our community safer for all 
                              children ages 0 through 17. To achieve this 
                              vision, we have three goals:

                              raise awareness regarding children exposed to 
                              violence and to build our capacity to recognize, 
                              respond and mitigate its impact on children and 
                              prevent future violence; 
                              <BR> <BR>2)      To 
                              better share and use data to drive our 
                              decision-making for strategic interventions, and 
                              to create more efficient and effective ways to 
                              deliver services; and 
                              <BR> <BR>3)      To 
                              develop a multi-systemic approach to prevention, 
                              identification and intervention, and advocate for 
                              policy change.<BR></DIV>

                              support group for any person over 40 living with 
                              HIV/AIDS. This group will focus on increase self

                                present, only one strategy has evidence

                                programs to prevent violence within dating 
                                relationships.  Evidence is, however, 
                                emerging of the effectives of a number of other 
                                strategies for preventing intimate partner and 
                                sexual violence, including microfinance programs 
                                for women combined with gender-equity education; 
                                efforts to reduce access to and harmful use of 
                                alcohol; and changing social and cultural gender

                                because they target known risk factors, but most

                                <LI>June 22, 2010.  A roommate found 
                                28-year-old Lindsay Babb stabbed to death in her 
                                Northeast Portland home. Her boyfriend, Miguel 
                                Camellon Montalvo, 35, was found with 
                                self-inflicted stab wounds. He was arrested. 
                                <LI>July 6, 2010. Harold James French was 
                                arrested for the beating death of 56-year-old 
                                Carla Pedraza in Northeast Portland. 
                                <LI>August 21, 2010.  33-year-old Scott 
                                Baker was shot and killed in a domestic violence 
                                related incident. Baker had a loaded 
                                handgun and was threatening to kill people while 
                                searching for his estranged wife at his 
                                step-son's Northeast Portland home when he 
                                was shot in self defense by his 18-year-old 
                                stepson. 
                                <LI>September 10, 2010.  Francis "Frank" 
                                Masure, 60, shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, 
                                Stephanie Curtis, 42,at her North Portland 
                                apartment before killing himself.  
                                <LI>In addition, Richard Hunter shot and killed 
                                his wife Astrid Schlaps then himself in 
                                early September in Manzanita OR, both 
                                victim and perpetrator were from the Portland 
                                area. </LI></UL>
