Homicides (PDVH) is a two and one-half day course designed to
explore the unique issues present in cases where intimate partner
violence results in death. The PDVH curriculum encourages a
proactive approach to these cases by examining the prosecutor’s role
in a coordinated community response to domestic violence. The
curriculum focuses on overcoming common defenses, introducing other
crimes evidence, effectively arguing forfeiture by wrongdoing, and
working with medical and forensic experts. Additionally, the
curriculum promotes the concept of fatality review and the role it
plays in preventing domestic violence homicides.

The PDVH
curriculum uses a hypothetical case scenario as the basis for
interactive lectures, small and large groups discussions, and
courtroom exercises. The faculty will consist of national
experts including prosecutors, law enforcement officers, forensic
examiners, and other criminal justice professionals from the
field. The experts will also be available to consult with the
participants on cases from their own jurisdictions.
Prosecutors will leave PDVH with new ideas and strategies for
holding offenders accountable and keeping communities
safe.

For a<SPAN
