From Cari.White at state.or.us Mon Feb 9 07:31:33 2009 From: Cari.White at state.or.us (WHITE Cari) Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2009 07:31:33 -0800 Subject: [ELPA] Important - ELPA Log-in Verification Message-ID: Over the past three days, ODE has received several reports from districts regarding students logging into the ELPA using the wrong SSID. It is essential that students carefully check the log-in verification page before starting the test. For younger students, it is acceptable for the test administrator to provide assistance during the log-in and verification process. To prevent test improprieties, please remind all test administrators involved with ELPA administration to be vigilant during the ELPA Log-in verification. Test administrators can find tips on assisting students with the ELPA log-in process online at http://www.ode.state.or.us/teachlearn/testing/admin/ell/elpa_login_0809-.pdf. If you become aware of students in your districts logging into the ELPA using the wrong SSID, please ensure that the students stop testing immediately and report the incident to Holly Edwards, Test Security Coordinator within one (1) business day. The test impropriety report form is available online at http://www.ode.state.or.us/go/testsecurity. ODE will then work with the district to determine whether a test reset is appropriate. Now students have up to 40 minutes to answer a single question. This should reduce the number of students being interrupted during their testing session. On the afternoon of Wed (2/4), ODE's ELPA contractor (Avant Assessment) identified a discrepancy in the amount of time a student was allowed to spend on one test item without clicking NEXT. The ELPA application allows up to 40 minutes before terminating a student's test session and requiring the student to login again. However, "load balancers" at the data centers were enforcing a five or six minute limit. Avant has changed the settings at the data centers to match the application settings. This fix has already taken effect for both the operational tests and the practice tests. Some districts have already reported improved ELPA performance. Avant and ODE appreciate the assistance of districts with trouble shooting efforts. Thanks for your continued support and patience. As the close of the ELPA testing window approaches, ODE has agreed to revise this policy in order to provide students the opportunity to test. 1) For ELPA tests begun by May 1, 2009, students must wait a minimum of two weeks before retesting. 2) Ode will not reset ELPA tests begun after May 1, 2009. This means that students will not be able to complete ELPA testing after May 1st if there is a test impropriety or irregularity with the testing administration.
