Here we are sharing the announcement of its approval from Oregon’s Chief Education Officer, Dr. Rudy Crew.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>To: Superintendents and Principals<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Re: Oregon’s Approved ESEA Waiver <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Today is an exciting day for our state as we look ahead at implementing a new, home-grown accountability system designed to better meet the needs of our districts, schools, and students. After months of hard work by over 120 stakeholders from around the state, Oregon’s final flexibility proposal has been accepted by the federal government, freeing Oregon from the cookie-cutter sanctions of No Child Left Behind. Our approved waiver application describes a new model for rating and supporting schools which will replace AYP. This new model is aligned to the state’s PK-20 efforts and puts us firmly on the path to meet our 40-40-20 goal.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>I want to thank all of the dedicated educators and community members who came together to help design this new system which provides a framework for college and career readiness, school accountability, and educator support. We could not have done this work without you!<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>We are currently in a period of transition and not all of the elements of the waiver will be in place immediately. This year, we will be using an interim system based on the current Oregon Report Card rating system, which will bridge the transition to the new model.
