USAC has announced their training locations for 2009, and PORTLAND is on the list! This is an excellent opportunity to attend the annual training that might otherwise be impossible in this economic climate. We strongly recommended that as many Oregon e-Rate coordinators try to attend as possible. They don’t come to our neck of the woods very often, so don’t miss this chance! Keep checking the listserv announcements for the dates to be posted, and then for registration to open. Sessions fill up fast, so register as soon as possible when the time comes!

 *   FY 2008 – FY 2009 Funding Status.  Wave 5 for FY 2008 and Wave 53 for FY 2008 will both be released this week.
 *   The Case for Revising FCC Audit Procedures.  There has been a groundswell of complaints has arisen regarding the unnecessary complexities and costs of the FCC-directed attestation audits.  This article examines these factors and discusses a recent FCC filing questioning the need for these burdensome “attestation” audits.
 *   E-Rate Updates and Reminders.  Applicants with technology plan approvals expiring June 30, 2009, must have updated plans approved by this date.  The SLD has announced an eight-city training schedule for this fall.  USAC issued an amended annual report for 2008.  Two more people have been debarred from the program.
 *   Schools and Libraries News Brief Dated May 22nd.   The SLD’s most recent News Brief notes the beginning of the summer PIA deferment procedures, and indicates that out-of-the-window letters will be mailed shortly to 270 applicants.
