If you choose to reply, remember that you do not have to respond to all of the items in the NPRM, only the ones that are important to you. This is a time of unprecedented change, and this is just the beginning. The more feedback the FCC gets, the smarter choices they can make. They really do appear to be listening. E-Rate Central did a great job of summarizing the changes proposed in the NPRM to make it a little easier to digest. I am also working on a document that breaks it down and adds some observations from Oregon?s perspective. I plan to send it out today or tomorrow, and would love to hear feedback from you on that as well. ? See the attached newsletter for articles on: * Funding Status. The first funding wave for FY 2010, plus Wave 54 for FY 2009, will be released this week. * FCC NPRM on E-Rate Program Revisions. An extensive NPRM was released by the FCC last week, proposing major modifications of the E-rate program designed to streamline the applications process, provide broader access to broadband services (both inside and outside of schools) and internal connections, index E-rate funding to inflation, and clarify equipment disposal rules. * E-Rate Updates and Reminders. * Released appeal decisions for 28 applicants. * Schools and Libraries News Brief dated May 21 ? Fall Applicant Training. The SLD announced its one-day fall training sessions scheduled to be held in eight cities nationwide. My comments in the right hand column are certainly not as comprehensive as they could be. These are just the first things I thought of when reading each idea, and I look forward to any of you to add your thoughts to it as well. The ideas contained in the NPRM are just some of the possibilities proposed by applicants in past comments or that the FCC have come up with as they reviewed past data, applicant appeals, or previous reply comments. The Commission has indicated that they not only want to hear about what we think of the ideas THEY came up with, but also any ideas that YOU have come up with. They want as many details as you have the energy to provide. They want data to show what different scenarios might look like. In other words, if you choose to reply to the NPRM, do not be shy!! You have their ear now, so if you've been thinking that there is a better way, write it down and send it in! I hope to find some opportunities to speak with groups of you out there about these and other ideas. I am traveling to DC on June 13th to meet with the State e-Rate Coordinator's Alliance to draft a reply, and we are planning meetings with the FCC and hopefully USAC. If you don't have time to formally send in reply comments, then you are welcome to send your thoughts to me. I want to bring as much information as possible to the table in DC so that I can properly advocate for Oregon applicants. Take care all, and let me know what you think!
