Good Morning Nancy,
Thank you for passing the info. On about HB 5055, the attachment and SB 3. I am very happy. I had been following the legislature everyday and even wrote letters to our representatives and Senators on the advice of Andrea Hungerford. However, left for COSA on the 21st and now first day back to the office.
Hopefully a couple of others will fall by the wayside.
Now back to work. I also wish you a happy and healthful summer.
Respectfully,
Judy Fairclough, Special Education Dir.

HB 5055 was passed and signed by the Governor. You should be aware that this bill allows for funds to cover our state MOE shortfall so that our IDEA funding should be fully restored. In addition this bill provides general funds to districts to use exclusively for students with disabilities (HB 5055 attached). Attached also please find a copy of the message sent yesterday to all superintendents and business managers. I wanted you to have this same information.
Senate Bill 3 that will change the terminology for mental retardation to intellectual disability passed both the House and Senate and is ready for signature . While this trip was longer than expected we need to be thankful it got to the end of the process without any contention. The Department will be ready to make the necessary changes in terminology to all of our relevant documents immediately upon the Governor's signature of this bill.
Have a safe and happy summer. Keep in touch as we will be here busy figuring out our new work based on other session actions. It would be good to hear from you!
