Hello,

A new comprehensive levee database provides essential information for reducing flood risks, responding to flood events, and planning ecological restoration efforts.

Released yesterday by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI), the database is a compilation of new and existing information on levees and levee-like features for major agricultural and urban areas in western Oregon and along the Columbia River.

Layers include:

- Levee lines representing the centerline of levee-like features that appear to protect against flooding

- Protected lands polygons representing parcels located behind levee line features

- Special district polygons representing historic and active districts for diking, drainage, or other forms of hydro-modification

DOGAMI Open-File Report O-17-02, Statewide Levee Database for Oregon, release 1.0: Major Agricultural and Urban Areas in Western Oregon and along the Columbia River, by Fletcher E. O'Brien includes a geodatabase and report. It's available for free download in the DOGAMI Publications Center at http://bit.ly/2sx6utY
