<p class="MsoNormal">I am excited to report that Rachel Smith will be joining the EIS Office of Data Governance and Transparency as Geographic Information Officer/Deputy Chief Data Officer. Rachel will be responsible for the strategic advancement of enterprise-wide
GIS initiatives, in addition to working closely with the Chief Data Officer to advance the mission and goals of the Office of Data Governance and Transparency. Rachel’s first day with the office will be September 8.

<p class="MsoNormal">Rachel joins the office from the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development where she has been the CIO and Information Resources Coordinator for the agency, leading both GIS and IT teams. She has 20+ years of experience using
and promoting GIS and information resources that foster data driven decision-making while advocating for data sharing, integrity, and stewardship. She has gained her diverse experiences through applied data analysis and technical leadership in the private
and public sectors, including work with the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries and the Washington Department of Transportation. Rachel holds a MA in Public Administration from Portland State University and a BS in Geography from Florida State
University.<o:p></o:p></p>
