Quick reminder that space is filling up (only 2 seats left) for the ArcGIS Online workshop next month. If you haven't yet responded, please let me know if you're interested in attending. If you responded that you are attending or might attend, please confirm your place. Details are attached. I'll send  a final reminder to the confirmed attendees about a week before the workshop.

Second, I came across a useful video from Esri with some useful tips/best practices for ArcGIS Online:

A few highlights from the video:

-          Customizing your profile: consider using a organization profile to identify your items as authoritative by (e.g., Oregon Geospatial Enterprise Office) rather than a user profile (your name).  (minute 1:30)

-          Keep services simple; avoid having to many layers. Separate into multiple services, as necessary.

-          Enable Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) to enable editing of Server 10.0 Feature Services from within ArcGIS Online (6:30)

-          Using your own basemaps (with local projection) for higher accuracy editing over the web (17:30)

-          Tips on documenting services at root level (20:20). Can use hyperlinks (to metadata, more information on website, etc.) in service/REST documentation.

-          Consider your audience when sharing service through a map viewer or application (application's are typically targeted towards a general audience) (39:40)

-          Sharing content for your agency/group through map galleries (48:00)
