[gpl_list] email address changes impact on listservers

At yesterday's GPL meeting there was a discussion about the effect of email address changes on listserver subscribers.  Basically, subscribers will not be able to post to lists once their email address changes - until they re-subscribe.  Below is a message that was sent out about this

Hello Mailing List Administrator,

I) More Email Address Changes - OPRD

I am writing to let you know that the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department (OPRD) has also switched their email to an @oregon.gov email domain.  Many of the lists we host for you contain OPRD subscribers.

This means their email address will be delivered from the following generic address: firstname.lastname at oregon.gov<mailto:firstname.lastname at oregon.gov>.

OPRD employees will be unable to post to your lists without unsubscribing their old address and re-subscribing with their new address.   Since you have to post to a list from the *same* address you are subscribed with, the domain change is likely to cause problems.

Your list subscriber can unsubscribe & re-subscribe to your list via your list's Public Page: http://listsmart.osl.state.or.us/mailman/listinfo/LISTNAME

If you can, please assist any of your OPRD subscribers or ask them to get in contact with me for assistance.

It is my understanding that mail will be forwarded to their @state.or.us addresses.  So, uninterrupted mail delivery via our lists should not be a problem although posting may very well be.

II) Additional Email Address Changes Forthcoming

More agencies are switching to Oregon.gov addresses.

Department of Administrative Services (DAS) and of their 15 client agencies including the Governor's Office and Housing and Community Services among others, will be switching over during the March-April timeframe.  Oregon Employment Department will be switching in May.

So, look for more of these messages at this time.
