This information is to provide a follow up to the recent thread Migrating from ArcGIS Desktop to ArcGIS Pro - Don't Wait Too Long that has been a discussion among our GPL list community. Sarah Barnes and Nathalie Smith at ESRI have helpfully provided some information for those looking into their future ArcGIS Desktop to ArcGIS Pro migration strategies. Below you will find a few key ESRI product lifecycle dates and training materials that may be useful in your enterprise planning.

Thanks,
Phil Smith

Subject: Migrating from ArcGIS Desktop to ArcGIS Pro - Don't Wait Too Long

All,
I agree with Eric that I think it is definitely time to start looking at ArcGIS Pro and start defining plans for future adoption, looking at aligning with agency needs, understanding the needed training, etc....
However, with regards to ArcMap deprecation, your best and official source of information is the Esri published Product Life Cycle documents - there is a document for each product but here is the link to the ArcMap Life Cycle:
http://support.esri.com/Products/Desktop/arcgis-desktop/arcmap/10-5#product-support
If you scroll down, you will see the life cycle for the previous versions as well.
If you click on the Product life cycle Policy at the top right you will get a full description of what support is/is not at each phase (there is a quick table at the top as well).
 Some quick highlights:
* ArcMap 10.1 entered Mature support in January 2016 and will be retired in Dec 2017. In Mature support, you can still call in tech support for help.
* ArcMap 10.5 which was released in Dec 2016 is expected to be in Mature Support (ie, you can call in for support) until the end of 2022.
* Training materials are still available for older version - if you go to the training website (https://www.esri.com/training/catalog/search/) and simply browse the catalog, you will see plenty of content still for ArcGIS 10..... now certainly instructor led training classes will tend to be on the most recent release - right now, content is on 10.4 and starting to be on 10.5....

Hope this is helpful

Nathalie
