3D Facilities: AIA CAD to GIS (Daniel Christensen and Paul Platosh)
3d needed to bring planning a stronger mapping perspective to Chief Financial office . Offered a new way of thinking and display for that business line. Capital Investment Planning was a beginning point this 3D facilities mapping.

Collaborated with ESRI on a pilot.
Work based on the smart cities movement.
Good idea but offered implementation challenges with the tools that were available at the time.
Want accessibility and use of the web for heightened engagement

Used City Engine for 1 square kilometer around Capitol Mall.
This provided a 3D modeling platform, but project has since moved on to toolset with a better technology match.
City Engine for this project was found to provide good display but relatively weaker at managing the data.

Challenge was out to how to better package the visualization?
Initiated development using Cloud Cities.
The product delivered an external spatial environment with city level information
It enabled the making of smart cities with internal building data in an accessible page attributes such as 'use of space', 'square footage', and 'population'.

The essential process is to clean CAD files, then geo-reference; complete any needed geoprocessing, and then create the web apps. Python scripts were used to bring the CAD drawings into a geodatabase. Attribution for this smart cities approach takes the cubicle as the smallest unit of data. However, the project required 1 foot spatial accuracy for financial calculations associated with a unit's area. The intent is then to take a cloud-sourcing approach to have building occupants populate the dataset for their representative area.

Updates - DAS GEO & Framework (Phil Smith read update from Theresa Burcsu)

* RFP for FW funding will be released no later than Tuesday, May 16. Deadline for proposals is July 14. I will hold a Q&A session in June and the proposal presentation meeting will be at the end of July, after the deadline. I would like to use the August GPL meeting to have GPL perform its review of the proposals. All dates are provided in the RFP.

* Framework Forum - negotiating dates with Cy. I was looking at June 9, at METRO, but Cy has a major conflict. He suggested that he doesn't have to be there. What does GPL think about Cy attending or not attending? Other dates would span into the second half of July. I plan to hold the winter forum in early December on the east side of the Cascades. Please ask for location preferences. the September forum was held in Bend.

* I am looking for some guest commentary on GIS in Action to include in the Framework Newsletter, as I was sick and unable to attend. I'm looking for content by May 25 or so.

* Other stories or updates to include in the newsletter is always welcomed.

General feedback received was that this timeframe would likely be too close for effective participation at Framework Forum. Further suggestions for framework forum and newsletter should be directed to Theresa Burcsu.
