FYI....

I'm sure the new Chief Data Officer will be interested in GIS data sharing by the agencies and other vertical integration of data. (or I assume that she will be interested) See the announcement below with her bio.

Maybe she would be a guest speaker or someone to invite to one of our meetings to share her vision for how GIS fits into the overall enterprise data governance. (Cy is probably already connected or will be before too long.)

Subject: [CIOC] Kathryn Helms - OSCIO's new Chief Data Officer

CIO Council Community,

Please welcome Kathryn Helms, our new Chief Data Officer, who started Monday, January 14. Below is Kathryn's brief bio:

Before joining the State of Oregon, Kathryn Helms led an initiative to centralize information and data governance at the City of Austin, resulting in the formation of a multi-agency governing board to create policy and a core strategy for managing information throughout the City.

Additionally, Kathryn was responsible for implementing the City's first open data initiative around campaign finance information, where she worked with the Texas Ethics Commission and Mayor and City Council to establish a method for transmitting data to the City Clerk's office in a machine-readable format and automating its publication to the City's Open Data Portal.

Kathryn holds a MSc. in Information Studies and Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BA in Comparative Literature and Romance Languages from the University of Oregon.

Kathryn has also been an active volunteer with SAFE Austin, Librarians Without Borders, and the Springfield Public Library.
