Hi folks, I wanted to pass along the name of the person in the email message below. He’s looking for a paid internship opportunity. I’m checking in with a few folks on his behalf. If you have a project for this spring/summer or extra work in your shop, or know someone who might, please contact him, or feel free to let me know and I can pass along the information. He talks a bit below about his skill set and interests. I can pass along a resume if there’s interest from any of you. Thanks!

Hi Cy, thanks for the prompt reply! I'd greatly appreciate any checking with folks to see if there's a fit.
I am actually located in Oregon City, so I'm perfectly willing to commute to Salem, but if you have a Portland office, that would be better. Still, Salem is definitely reasonable, depending on the work and yes, the pay :) At this point, I'm definitely interested in paid positions. Eugene might work for short term projects (say, a few days or a week at a time), as I have friends I could stay with, but definitely too far for a daily/weekly commute.
A little bit more about me:
I have a BS of Environmental Studies from the University of Minnesota, graduated 1995. I was an environmental/outdoor educator until about 2015 (all over the country) - the last 7 years of which was primarily as a professional team builder, bringing teams of professionals out to challenge courses (to work on team dynamics/communication, group trust, etc.). About 10 years ago, I got interested in web development, so I got a professional certificate from PSU (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, web design), then became the director of a code school for adults for 2 years. The last few years I've been teaching tech to kids, but I'm ready for a more defined career path in GIS. It seems to combine my two main professional interests: tech sciences and earth sciences.
My interests in GIS:
As far as my interests within GIS, I've only identified a few, but I can tell I'm interested in most of it. For example, I love working in Python (and the prospect of developing tools for analysts), so GIS Development interests me. Also, Geospatial Analysis in general is fascinating to me - and seems almost infinite in its scope and variability, so I would love to jump into that kind of work. I taught astronomy for 3 years, so remote sensing has always intrigued me. Working with satellite imagery, analyzing it, building maps and presenting analyses...it all sounds fun! I also have deep interests in history, politics (from a historical perspective), music and board games. Honestly, I'm open to just about any GIS work to start, and I'd love to hear if your office has any opportunities for me.
My skills:
I'm very adept at technology of just about any kind. If I don't know it, I can learn it quickly.
In GIS, I can:

  * Create/edit maps in ArcMap (perform simple suitability analyses, for example, or create features in edit sessions)
  *   Manage data in ArcCatalog
  *   Georeference raster data
  * Create/edit data in Excel or create geodatabases in ArcCatalog
  *   Fiercely research the internet
  *   Write/perform SQL queries
  * Write simple Python scripts in ArcMap (currently deep-diving into this in my advanced Python class)
· Probably do more than I think I can :)
Again, I'm ready to dive in to pretty much any entry-level GIS work, so if you or someone on your team thinks they have work for me, I'd love to discuss the possibilities.

Subject: Internship
Hello, my name is Cris Kelly, and I'm a [non-traditional] student in CCC's GIS program, finishing up in June. I'm on the hunt for a good internship for this spring/summer to help complete my certificate. Does GEO offer internships?
I'm changing careers, from 20+ years of education (including 5+ years of technology education) to GIS, a field I'm truly excited about.
I'd love to hear about any opportunities you might have for me.
Thanks, kindly.
Cris Kelly
