Subject: Lincoln County Hazus Study - earthquake & M1, L1, XXL1 tsunami scenarios

Greetings,

Earlier this week we released a new earthquake and tsunami Hazus study for coastal Lincoln County; similar products have been completed for Clatsop and Tillamook County. The objective of this study was to evaluate community exposure to tsunami inundation. Besides the XXL scenario, we examined the impacts associated with the Medium (M1) and Large (L1) tsunami inundation scenarios, with detailed estimates of the following:

  *   infrastructure damage and losses
  * casualty estimates (injuries and fatalities)
  * displaced population estimates (people without homes after the event)
  *   debris generated
While the focus of this study is largely on tsunami impacts, we also provided damage estimates and casualties associated with the earthquake (inside and outside the tsunami zone). What is unique about this latest study relative to past efforts is that our population modeling evaluates both permanent residents living in your communities, as well as estimates of the temporary (visitor) population that may be in your community at the time of the event. This provides a more complete evaluation of potential casualties that might occur for both permanent residents and visitors, as well as the displaced population that you will need to care for after the event. Finally, we include summary information (see Appendix A in the report) for each community (including several parks) to enable direct comparisons of the modeled impacts associated with the M1, L1 and XXL1 tsunami inundation scenarios.

You can find a copy of the report here: https://www.oregongeology.org/pubs/ofr/p-O-21-02.htm
Open-File Report O-21-02, Earthquake and Tsunami Impact Analysis for Coastal Lincoln County, Oregon, by Jonathan C. Allan and Fletcher E. O'Brien. The publication includes report text, an appendix of community profiles, and a spreadsheet containing data that are the basis for the report's tables and figures.

Should you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Jon
