[gpl_list] Incoming GPL Chair Announcement - Planning for 2024

Good afternoon GIS Program Leaders!

I wanted to let you all know that as incoming GPL chair, I look forward to working with you all and making sure that the content that we are presenting is of interest to everyone in attendance. As such, there's a few things that I'll be pushing out over the next day regarding GPL. Please pay attention to your inbox as I'll be sharing with you all the updated outlook invites to ensure we have those on our calendars for the new year.

To prepare for 2024, here's a few things that I have on my radar for this coming year to talk about at GPL throughout the year:

  *   Each month, I'd love to have at least one presentation from an agency on how they use GIS. I enjoyed Brady's presentation on State Parks and Ariel's on LPRO. There are many different agencies that participate in GPL and it'd be great to have you all talk about your programs!
  *   One thing that I'd like to hear about is how you deal with the GIS request process within your agency. This is something that I'm trying to document for our staff at OEM and I think it would be of interest to everyone to know how you all deal with this aspect of your agency operations.
  *   For those of you that have multiple GIS staff or are looking for more - what are some of your lessons learned about the GIS staff recruitment process? What key things do you look for when getting new staff on board?

I will also be setting up a live whiteboard for us to be working on in the January meeting - we'll spend a little bit of time talking about what we're looking for on this whiteboard and some of our next steps - I want these meetings to work for you all and provide content that you are interested in, and this is the best way to let your voices be heard.

The Asks

  *   I'd appreciate at least one agency step up to present on how they use GIS at our next GPL meeting in January - with a presentation lasting 30 to 45 minutes with time for questions at the end. If you would be willing to present, please let me know as soon as possible. Remember that our next meeting is January 9th!
  *   Please come prepared with your thoughts on what you'd like to see us talk about/discuss/train on this next year.
  *   Please pay attention to your emails for important messages coming out about future GPL meetings and planning for agenda items.
