Hello Everyone,

The address standard workgroup meetings will be held the third-Tuesday of each month from 9:00 - 10:00 AM starting on June 18 and will run through October.

June 18
July 16
August 20
September 17
October 15

Anyone who is interested in helping to create a new address point standard for Oregon is welcome to join. I hope to have a group of folks with a diversity of interests and backgrounds who would like to help. The tasks involve writing a draft standard, using the attached template, that will be discussed, reviewed and revised several times and ultimately presented to the Oregon Geographic Information Council for their endorsement.

In order to create a standard that works for a wide range of uses we will review the four major national standards (FGDC, NENA, NAD, and USPS). We also will need help with looking at what other states are using for an address point standard, as well as what some of the other counties in Oregon are already using. We will also work with other groups including the NG911 GTAC, National Address Database, other Framework Implementation Teams, the building footprints workgroup, and anyone else involved with providing or using address points. We will also look at other successful Framework standards to see how they were written. We will start with just the minimum core fields that make up an address point and add other fields that are needed to augment the basic address and location to accommodate a wide variety of uses.

The schedule is to complete this process by early next year. The workgroup meetings are scheduled through October if needed and can be adjusted if necessary. Most of the remainder of the time will be making presentations and giving time for people to review, comment, and revise the draft standard.

This statewide standard has been needed for a long time and I think that the process of working together to create one will be enjoyable and interesting. Please consider helping us even if you cannot attend every meeting. I would be grateful for any participation and time you can spare. Please let me know if you are interested.

Thanks!
Tom
