Collecting and Managing Data to Support Hazard Risk Assessment - format/build your own data sets for use in HAZUS!
Portland, OR Monday, May 20th through Wednesday, May 22nd 8:30 to 4:30 Pacific and Thursday, May 23rd from 8:30 to 11:30
This workshop provides a working knowledge of the building, infrastructure, population, agriculture, and other data needed to support the modeling and characterization of risk from earthquake and flood hazards in FEMA Region 10. The workshop offers guidance on inventory collection strategies that are independent of the tool used to assess risk. Focus is given to inventory elements required by Hazus, with an emphasis on components that are most important in terms of defining hazard related economic and social impacts to FEMA Region 10 states. Multiple opportunities are provided for hands-on exploration and management of inventory data.
Modeling, Visualizing and Communicating Riverine and Coastal Flood Risk with Hazus
Boise, ID Monday, July 22nd through Wednesday, July 24th, 8:30 to 4:30 Mountain time and Thursday, July 25th from 8:30 to 11:30
Description: This workshop explores how to use FEMA's Hazus application to assess and mitigate the economic and social impacts from riverine and coastal floods. It emphasizes the features of Hazus that should be applied within FEMA Region 10 states and communities based on the hazards that exist in the region, the availability of hazard and exposure data and project goals. The workshop will also address how other common Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and techniques can be used to enhance the communication of risk from these hazards. A portion of the workshop will be dedicated to exploring various statistical tools and techniques that can be applied toward better understanding and communicating flood and other forms of risk. Numerous instructor demonstrations of tools and techniques as well as multiple hands-on activities will reinforce concepts and skills.
