Using social media networks, such as Facebook, can provide health educators an opportunity to connect to audiences not previously captured in outreach efforts. Follow my program on Facebook to learn more about environmental public health news and to also share in the experience of seeing how social media impacts our work. I look forward to sharing my experiences at future meetings. I have developed a Social Media Outreach Plan (complete with logic model) to guide and evaluate my efforts; Please email me directly to see a copy of this. Its focus is on finding ways to ensure people's health long before health care is needed. Its goal is to create environments and systems that provide every Oregonian, regardless of their income, education, or racial/ethnic background, with the opportunity to make healthy choices for themselves and their families. To help address these issues, the Oregon Health Policy Board created the Oregon Health Improvement Plan (HIP) Committee in January 2010 with the charge of recommending innovative solutions. The Oregon Health Policy Board expects recommendations that are actionable within the scope of the Oregon Health Authority and the current economic environment. Given this charge and context, we are seeking your input as to whether or not you feel the components of the draft plan will move Oregon in the direction for improved health. We invite you to review the draft plan and complete the Public Input Survey available at http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/ph/hpcdp/hip/index.shtml. The results of this survey will be summarized as part of the HIP Committee's presentation to the Oregon Health Policy Board on November 9, 2010. At that time, the Oregon Health Policy Board will consider the plan and the summarized feedback. The Board will forward recommendations it approves to the Oregon Health Authority and Legislature. Please share this opportunity with others. We appreciate you taking time to complete the survey which will close at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010. Multnomah County is getting ready to launch our breastfeeding peer counseling program! We will have the job posting on the county website hopefully within the next couple of weeks. If you know someone who would be a good candidate, please let them know! We are in the designing phases of the program, and we would love to collaborate with others and coordinate services. If you have any ideas, I'm open! I would particularly like to know more about different available lactation services so we can develop a good referral system for moms in need. I would also like to try to find a way to coordinate with hospitals, so we know when moms have their babies. We would love the peers to have frequent contact with the moms during those first couple of weeks, where so many moms start supplementing. Please let me know of any other gaps in services you see so we can work on the moms getting good comprehensive care to keep them from falling through the cracks. If you would like to know more about the program, I would love to talk with you about it! -- Mary Wachsmuth Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator Multnomah County WIC -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
