 OPHA Health Education & Health Promotion Section Scholarship Program



The Oregon Public Health Association Health Education & Promotion (HEP)
Section Scholarship Program provides opportunities for public health
professionals and students to participate in professional and leadership
development activities. This scholarship is available for HEP Section
Members to attend seminars, workshops, conferences, or forums that will
expand the recipients’ skill sets and further their career prospects.



We encourage applicants to assess gaps in their knowledge and skills,
identify and evaluate learning opportunities, and apply for funds to cover
expenses for opportunities that will help them achieve their professional
learning goals and address health inequities in Oregon.



The application will be scored on a 10 pt scale. The application includes
three short-answer questions, which will be scored based on the strength of
each answer. Students and unemployed jobseekers will receive an additional
point.

The maximum award available will be $100. We anticipate awarding 1-2
scholarships per quarter. Recipients must provide proof of payment.
Scholarships funds will be provided as reimbursements within 30 days.

*Eligible expenses: *

·       Registration fees for educational meetings, seminars, workshops,
conferences, or forums

·       Continuing education credits (CHES, MCHES, CNE, CME, Naturopathic
CE’s etc.)

·       Required attendee materials (Books, etc.)

*Deadlines: *The scholarships will be awarded on a quarterly basis and
applications are due on the following dates:

·       July 31st

·       October 31st

·       January 31st

·       March 31st



(Recipients awards will be announced on August 15th, November 15th,
February 15th, and April15th.)

*Eligibility: *

·       Applicants must be dues-paying members of the OPHA HEP Section.

·       Applicants must be employed in the public health field, a student
in the public health field, or a graduate of a public health program
seeking employment in the field.

·       Applicants may apply an unlimited number of times providing he/she
qualifies under the established criteria and *has not* *been a previous
recipient within the previous year.*

*Requirements for the Application:*

·       Submit a scholarship application by the following deadlines: July 31
st, October 31st, January 31st, and March 31st via email to:
green.alissa at gmail.com.

·       Recipients must agree to provide a comprehensive one-page written
analysis of the session(s) attended at the conference. The summary will be
sent through the HEP listerve.



Recipients should include the following in their written analysis:



1)     Conference name, session title and/or presenter.

2)     Synopsis of session(s).

3)     How the information learned will enhance your skill-set as a health
educator/promoter.

4)     How the information learned could be used to address health
inequities in Oregon.

5)     How you will apply the information learned to your profession.
