About the Position
Position Title: Communications Manager
Hours: Part-time, 25 hours per week
Rate: $19.00 per hour, eligible for benefits
Status: Regular, Non-Exempt
The Communications Manager raises awareness about hunger and poverty, and effectively communicates our mission, policies, values and decisions.  A successful candidate possesses broad knowledge about best practices and has a passion for enhancing organizational communications. This position will amplify our existing efforts by expanding our communications infrastructure.
The person in this position will create compelling content for publications and gather stories from program staff, partners and those impacted by hunger. This position will coordinate the production of newsletters, web content, press releases and social media, and manage our relationships with members of the media.

Primary Tasks & Responsibilities
Media Coordination
*         Write and develop press releases, announcements, op-eds, letters to the editor, web text, media plans/calendars, and other materials;
*         Strengthen relationships and maintain regular communications with reporters and bloggers covering hunger and poverty;
*         Conduct media research and build and update traditional and nontraditional media contact lists;
*         Track and assess coverage in the media utilizing results to develop new communication strategies;
*         Identify and make use of media opportunities to highlight the impact of hunger and the importance of the federal nutrition programs to alleviate it.
Communication Management
*         Develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive annual communications plan.
*         Utilize programmatic stories, photos and reports to update our website, produce e-newsletters and contribute to social media.
*         Maintain organizational materials that have a consistent look and feel. May be responsible for drafting, editing and/or layout of written and graphic materials.
*         Increase internal communications capacity: Manage PR team by setting agendas, delegating communication tasks and evaluating our impact; Develop PR processes and guidelines for staff, board members and volunteers to enhance the effectiveness of our communications.
*         Supervise communication volunteers/interns as needed.
Skills & Qualifications

*         Bachelor's Degree or higher in the field of communication, journalism, English/creative writing, marketing or related field.
*         Experience working in a communications capacity for at least 2 years, ideally within a nonprofit environment.
*         Superb written and verbal communication skills.
*         Ability to work with a variety of electronic communication tools and current technology in support of PHFO's marketing and web-based programs.
*         Experience with social media platforms and website management (Constant Contact and Drupal preferred).
*         Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs (required).
*         Strong Desktop publishing skills (InDesign preferred).
*         Excellent grammar, copy editing and proofreading skills.
*         Ability to take initiative, identify needs, leverage assets & craft solutions.
*         Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively.
*         Sensitivity to the issues facing people with limited incomes.
*         Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a broad and diverse group of community members.
