> New Toolkit: National African American Hepatitis C Action Day
> July 25th is National African American Hepatitis C Action Day. The day is a commemoration designed to heighten public awareness about the devastating impact of the Hepatitis C epidemic on African American communities. CDC joined the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, Inc. to help promote the day in an effort to increase Hepatitis C awareness, increase Hepatitis C testing among baby boomers, and increase access to medical care and treatment for individuals infected with the Hepatitis C virus. A tool kit is available to help get your planning underway.

> New toolkits on AHRQ's website offer insights for clinicians interested in developing sustainable links with community resources to help increase patient engagement in obesity management. One toolkit, "Community Connections: Linking Primary Care Patients to Local Resources for Better Management of Obesity," provides broad strategies based on actual experiences that practices can customize according to their own needs. Another resource, "Integrating Primary Care Practices and Community-Based Resources to Manage Obesity: A Bridge Building Toolkit for Rural Primary Care Practices," provides tools and concepts informed by the real world of six primary care practices in three rural Oregon communities.

> New Fotonovela to Discuss Cholesterol and Diet with Hispanic Population
> Hispanic populations have a high prevalence of high blood cholesterol, which is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Because fotonovelas use plain language and are common in Spanish-language cultures, they are an effective medium for health promotion and health education for Hispanic audiences.

> Promotores and other health workers are encouraged to read this fotonovela with participants as a way to share cholesterol management information with Spanish-speaking populations. A Guide accompanies the fotonovela and gives these members of the health care team a brief summary of objectives, tips, additional activities, reviews, and reminders. The guide and fotonovela are available in English and Spanish.

> Deadline Extension! Regulatory Comment: FDA Extending Authorities to Additional Tobacco Product
> FDA has published a notice in the Federal Register announcing a 30-day extension of the comment period for the proposed rule that would extend its authority to regulate tobacco products such as e-cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco. The comment period will now close on August 8, 2014. Click here to submit your comments, data and research

> Comment Period Open for EPA Carbon Rule for Existing Power Plants
> On June 2, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy announced the agency’s Clean Power Plan, a proposed rule to require existing U.S. power plants to reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. The proposal, which is now published in the Federal Register, is open for public comment until Oct. 16. Interested advocates can submit comments in support of the strongest possible rule by submitting comments though the Federal Register online via regulations.gov. EPA will also be hosting a series of public hearings the week of July, 28 in Atlanta, Denver, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh. If you are interested in attending a public hearing, you can find more information about dates and location and how to register on EPA’s website.
