[Place Matters 2016: Working together to create healthy communities]



The fourth biennial Place Matters Conference will address the leading preventable causes of death in Oregon - tobacco, obesity, poor nutrition and physical inactivity - and the community conditions that contribute to these risk factors. Where we live, work, play and learn all exert a powerful effect on whether we can prevent and manage heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other chronic diseases and access optimal health. Together, we are creating more places where the default choices are healthy, where unhealthy choices are rare, and where all Oregonians can take care of their health.

Place Matters Conference attendees will be inspired to identify how they can work with policy, system and environmental change strategies in their organization or community and contribute to the growing movement to combat chronic disease and achieve better health for Oregonians. Attendees will learn about effective approaches from presenters reflecting state and local government, tribes, non-profit and social enterprise organizations, health care and private sector partners. Session content will include best practices, useful tools, practical examples of recent successes, and lessons learned doing this work in Oregon and nationally.

The conference also includes a poster session, an awards luncheon and facilitated networking. In partnership with the Oregon Public Health Association, this event has been approved for up to 11.75 CHES (entry-level) / MCHES (advanced-level) Category I continuing education contact hours (CECH) through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC).
